Mobile counseling + social app for LGBT Nigerians

LGBT+ Nigerians are about to get a new online mobile platform through which they can connect, chat and get help from LGBT-friendly professionals across the country.

Promotion for Qtalk, Nigerian LGBT Mobile App.

The app ‘QTALK Naija’, which is currently being developed by the LGBTIQ website NoStringsNG, will cater to the needs of LGBT+ Nigerians only.

In Nigeria, many LGBT+ persons struggle with mental health issues stemming from their daily experiences of discrimination, persecution, violence, stigma and exclusion due to Nigeria’s homophobic society and its harsh laws against homosexuality.

As a result, establishing physical connections is hard among LGBT+ people. They fear being outed, arrested and persecuted. These barriers have harm people’s self-esteem, which often hinders them from speaking up and advocating for their basic human rights.

But with the assistance of this new mobile application, members of the LGBT+ community who need help with dealing with issues related to mental health, relationships, health or legal advice will be connected via the app to experts who will provide them with the needed assistance — for FREE.

But that’s not all. Via the app, LGBT+ people will be able to join various chat rooms to engage in healthy conversations as well as share experiences with each other.

At present, the app is being developed for Android phones.

For this project, we are pleased to announce that we have partnered with “Living Free with Dan,” an initiative by Dan Yomi, a U.K-based Nigerian advocate for LGBT+ people. Through this project, he aims to increase awareness of African mental health issues and create a safe space for others like him.
